Why do we do Fundraisers for Oak Mesa?
We are not a Title 1 school, which receives more funding from state. By Fundraising PTA can pay for Classroom Technology, Scholastic weekly readers, most software for classrooms, field trip contributions, Limo Lunch, Kindergarten signs, Kindergarten orientation, student programs, birthday books, family fun nights, carnival, red ribbon week, assemblies, classroom readers, walk through California, Walk Through the American Revolution, school supplies (e.g. laminating film, paper, photocopier ink), ground beautification, staff appreciation lunches etc.
What fundraisers are we doing this year to raise money for PTA
- Change Wars (more info coming soon!)
- Ollie Hide and Seek
- Read-a-Thon ( This fundraiser goes specifically to Technology)
- Amazon Smile
Why do we have a Technology Specific Fundraiser? I already did a donation, should I still contribute?
Where our fundraisers supply the needed funds for PTA to run throughout the year. The Technology fundraiser goes only to Technology. Within the last 2 years we have got chromebooks 1-1 for 3-5th grade. Rotating shared carts for 1st & 2nd, as well as 6 Ipads for each kinder class. As always the choice is yours to donate. However this is a separate specific school wide fundraiser.
Why do we have other fundraisers for specific grades?
We do fundraising throughout your child’s time at Oak Mesa to pay for grade specific opportunities.
These events are grade level specific and funds do not go to PTA school wide events. The funds raised in these activities are targeted only for a specific purpose, some examples:
- 4th grade fundraising for their 5th grade science camp could consist of:
- 5th Grade fundraising for their end of the year party, t-shirts, and festivities will consist of:
- 3rd GRADE FUNDRAISING FOR 4TH GRADE FIELD TRIPS
- K-2 FUNDRAISING FOR THIS YEARS FIELD TRIPS
When are the grade specific After School Sales held?
This year each grade will choose one day of the last full week of each month for our after school sales. Room Parents will pick the month for their grade at the Room Parent meeting, but here are what they will be selecting from:
- Sept. 26-29
- Oct. 24-27
- Nov. and Dec. No After School Sales due to Thanksgiving/Winter break
- Jan. 23-26
- Feb. 20-23
- March 27-30 (Another option is to have a booth at the Carnival on the 23rd)
- April 24-27
What if I don’t want to participate in all these fundraisers?
You are not required to participate in anything you don’t want to. In fact, some families prefer to offer a one-time donation instead of participating throughout the year. If you are interested in doing that, see the PTA WALK- A- THON information in this packet.
If I want to donate funds directly, how much should I donate?
While can and do give more, we suggest a minimum donation of $100 per child you have attending Oak Mesa. For some families that could be a financial burden. If that is the case, please contribute what is appropriate for your situation. These donated funds help us make sure we can cover a reasonable number of things for each child. If we are not able to raise enough money to cover all the events planned, some will get cancelled or additional fundraisers will be necessary to try to make them happen.
What are ways that I can get my child’s extended family to help?
One great way in addition to the raffles and other sales is have them participate in the Walk-a-Thon and Read-a-Thon.
What is there is money left over for my child’s grade level fundraising?
If there are any funds remaining, they go straight into the next year’s fund. We try to start fundraising for 4th grade field trips (average $60 per student) and 5th grade Science Camp in 3rd Grade as science camp is our most expensive field trip (over $200 per child). If your child’s 5th grade class has money left over it is donated to the 5TH GRADES departing gift to the school. Some examples include buying Buddy Benches, update of outside teacher area.
What happens with PTA General Fund money that may be left over?
A school gift committee is formed. Together they will spend the remaining money left over for the school needs. Input is collected from staff and the committee votes on gifts. Some gifts through the years have included the new electronic marquee, benches for the playground, playground equipment, protector cases for Ipads, green screen and lighting, new headphones, chromebook carts, protection warranties for Ipads, laminator to name a few.
I have some great ideas for fundraisers and I want to help out.
We would love to hear your ideas! Our PTA meeting are the last Thursday of every month. If you are unable to come to a meeting send us an email with your idea at firstname.lastname@example.org.
