This newsletter will keep you up to date with the events PTA is hosting as well as provide updates as to where our money goes.
Let’s start with events. So far we’ve had two assemblies for the student body, one was in September and one in November. We have another coming in December.
Our Trunk or Treat was a huge success again this year. Coming on December 14th from 6-8 is Winter Family Fun Night we will have Santa, Hot Chocolate, Crafts and a boutique for parents to get a little shopping done before the holidays.
In 2019 we have Doughnuts with Dads (January 11), Ollie Dance (February 15), Talent Show (March 8), Muffins with Moms (March 15), and the Carnival (May 10). I am also looking into a Math Family Night sometime in the Spring.
A question I get often is “what does PTA spend the money on?” This is a really great question and I am happy to answer this. First, let me explain a little bit about our different fundraisers. This year we did Direct Donation (as opposed to a big walk-a-thon like in years past). That money goes to our general fund. The general fund pays for everything except Technology. So for example, we purchased:
The other fund we have is a Technology Fund. Prior to last year, PTA paid for all of the student chromebooks, iPads, charging stations, headphones and mice. Thankfully, last year the district implemented a program to start supplying the schools with technology. Our technology fund pays for:
Finally, we have individual accounts for any grades that earn money through fundraising. Usually this is 4th and 5th grade but any grade is able to fund raise. The fourth grade families are encouraged to start fundraising as soon as possible to help offset the cost of Science Camp in 5th Grade. Science camp is around $260 per student, so we like to offer opportunities for the families to make as much as they can. That is why you see fundraisers like Poinsettia Sales, the Active Sock fundraiser, Blaze Pizza.
Fifth grade fundraisers help offset the cost of all of the great activities the 5th graders do like, 50’s Day, and the last week of school where they have different fun events before Promotion.
I know this is a lot of information to process and if you still have questions please email me at email@example.com. I will do my best to answer your questions quickly. You are also welcome to join us for our Association Meeting on December 14, 2018 at 5 pm. At this meeting we will be electing our Nominating Committee and our Gifts Committee as well as approving contracts for the remainder of the school year.
