Why do we raise funds for Oak Mesa?
Oak Mesa is not a Title 1 school. Title 1 schools receive significantly more funding from the state than we do at Oak Mesa. By fundraising, PTA can pay for software for the classrooms, Scholastic weekly readers, field trip contributions, Kindergarten signs, Kindergarten orientation, student programs, birthday books, family fun nights, carnival, red ribbon week, assemblies, classroom readers, walk through California, Walk Through the American Revolution, school supplies (e.g. laminating film, paper, photocopier ink), ground beautification, teacher and staff appreciation lunches, etc.
What fundraisers are we doing this year to raise money for PTA?
Bubble Run (October 2024)
Why do we have a technology specific fundraiser? I already made a donation, should I still contribute?
If our Bubble Run fundraiser does not bring in enough money, we may need to do a technology specific fundraiser later on in the school year. Technology specific fundraisers typically happen in the spring when the need arises for the school to acquire new technology. Within the last 3 years we have purchased Chromebooks, charging stations, I-pads, a PC for the school librarian, nine replacement laptops for teachers and one for the multipurpose room, a sound system for the discovery center, and so much more. As always, the choice is yours to donate. However, this is a separate school wide fundraiser for technology.
Why do we have other fundraisers for specific grades?
We do fundraising throughout your student's(s,) time at Oak Mesa to pay for grade and group specific opportunities.
These events are grade level and group specific and funds DO NOT GO TO PTA SCHOOL WIDE FUNDS. The funds raised in these activities are targeted only for a specific purpose.
Some examples:
STUDENT COUNCIL: Kona Ice once a month
4th GRADE FUNDRAISING FOR THEIR 5th GRADE SCIENCE CAMP: Popsicle sale, Spring See’s Candy, Poinsettias,
5th GRADE FUNDRAISING FOR ACTIVITY DAYS & END OF YEAR POOL PARTY: Winter See’s Candy, Popsicle Sale, 1 Restaurant night and Paint-a-Tile.
3rd GRADE FUNDRAISING FOR 4TH GRADE FIELD TRIPS: 2 Popsicle Sales and 1 other to be determined
K-2 FUNDRAISING FOR THIS YEAR'S FIELD TRIPS: 1 Popsicle Sale and 1 other to be determined
What if I don’t want to participate in all these fundraisers?
You are not required to participate in any of the fundraisers.
If I want to donate funds directly, how much should I donate?
Most families prefer to offer a one-time donation instead of participating throughout the year. Donations are so important to PTA. We suggest a minimum donation of $100 per child attending Oak Mesa. For some families this amount can be a financial burden. If that is the case, please contribute what is appropriate for your situation. These donated funds help us ensure PTA can cover a reasonable number of programs and events for each child. If we are unable to raise enough money to cover all the programs and events planned, some will get cancelled. These donations can be made through our Bubble Run in October 2024.
What happens with PTA General Fund money that may be left over?
A school gift committee is formed. Together they will spend the remaining money left over for the school needs. The committee meets and receives input from staff as to what would be most beneficial for students and the campus. Some gifts through the years have included the new electronic marquee, benches for the playground, playground equipment, protector cases for I-pads, green screen and lighting, new headphones, Chromebook carts, protection warranties for I-pads, and the laminating machine to name a few.
I have some great ideas for fundraisers and I want to help out.
We would love to hear your ideas! Please email your ideas to [email protected].
